Google is ending Chrome support for macOS Big Sur

Better make the switch before July 30.

If your Mac is running macOS 11 (Big Sur) and you use Chrome now, it is the time to switch browsers or upgrade your Mac.

Google confirmed on Tuesday (July 25) that it is dropping support for macOS Big Sur on July 20th.

Chrome version 139 is expedited to be released on July 30th. This update will not be compatible with macOS 11, requiring macOS 12 or newer.

Chrome 138 will be the last release to support macOS 11; Chrome 139+ will no longer support macOS 11, which is outside of its support window with Apple. Running on a supported operating system is essential to maintaining security.

On Macs running macOS 11, Chrome will continue to work, showing a warning infobar, but will not update any further. If a user wishes to have their Chrome be updated, they need to update their computer to a support version of macOS.

For new installations of Chrome 139+, macOS 12+ will be required.

Chrome 138 will continue to work on macOS 11, but the user will see a warning and you won’t receive any new features and updates.

If you are stuck on a Mac running macOS 11, it is time for an upgrade.
