Meta just announced DMs on Threads and it’s getting mixed opinions
Some people Love it, Some people Hate it
One of threads most requested feature is here: Direct Messaging or DMs, this way users don’t have to leave threads for other apps like Instagram or Facebook. Along side Threads also announced highlighter.
Threads DMs aren’t anything special. DMs will support one-on-one messaging, emoji reactions and basic Block & Report buttons.
DMs are rolling out today for users above 18 and in most markets except for Japan, Australia, the U.K., and the EU.
“We’re not encrypting our DMs,” said Emily Dalton Smith, Threads “It’s really about just connecting directly and talking to people about whatever is happening now, which I think makes encryption less core to the experience.”
Emily says that DMs are ment to build on community’s that users have built on Threads.
Meta is testing other ways for users to login to threads with out needing to use a instagram account.
For example in Europe Threads is testing logging in with Facebook. And the option to have a Threads only account with the ability to use threads on the web without needing to be logged in at all.
The newly announced Highlight feature will highlight threading topics on threads and change the Mobile loading animation.
All of these new features are great, even though I do post on threads, my heart belongs to Bluesky.
